IN LOVING MEMORY OF SYREETA
 

The conscientious student, Syreeta was a special child.
She was a very active student at Willowridge High School in Houston, TX. By her junior year, she was in the top 3% of her class. She graduated Magna Cum Laude.


She was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma in the summer before her H.S. senior year. A cancerous disease, she battled and overcame it through chemotherapy and radiation treatments in 1997-1998.
She entered Tulane University in New Orleans in the fall of 1998. She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., the Reading is Fundamental Tutoring Program a member of the African-American Congress of Tulane, and she was a member of the Community Action Council of Tulane University Students. In May 2002, she graduated from Tulane University.In October of that same year, she had a recurrence of the Hodgkin disease.
On February 4, 2004, at the age of 23, Syreeta lost her life due to complications from a bone marrow transplant. These annual scholarship awards will give memory to Syreeta while supporting the principles by which she lived and will help other students strive for academic excellence in leadership and in learning.
